In 2012 I completed an Honours degree in Geography at the University of Sydney, studying the impact of the Tillegra Dam proposal on the community of Dungog Shire in the Hunter Valley, NSW, Australia. The results indicate that social impact assessment must become a pre-decision priority in government planning to avoid significant logistical, financial and emotional disruption in our communities. I am very grateful to the people of Dungog Shire for their time and support during the project. My thesis is available to download here.
I'm hoping to pursue further studies in current bowed-continuo practice with a plan to interview and observe many of the greatest contemporary performers. These findings will be combined with insights from the available historical evidence to create a document that offers students and professionals a chance to reflect on modern practice, which is so often based in intuition and imitation. I wrote a pilot research paper on this topic while at Juilliard.
